The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 was set up in July 1949 for the regulation of the profession of chartered accountancy in India. The Institute has achieved recognition as a premier accounting body for its contribution in the fields of education, professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards. Bhubaneswar Branch of Eastern India Regional Council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India was setup on 16 September 1979. The Branch activities were carried out from rented premises as it did not have any building of its own.

The land for Office, measuring 10000 Sq Ft., was acquired in 1997 out of generous contribution of past chairmen and senior members of the branch. The land, located in an institutional area in the heart of the city, was allotted by the then Chief Minister legendary Late Biju Pattnaik. The foundation stone was laid by the then President Shri Rahul Roy in 1999 and the construction of the building with a plinth area of 6000 ft2, was started in the year 2000. With the hard and dedicated efforts of a few members and overall support of all the members it got completed in December 2004.
